I think I heard the Great Hunter singing this as he went out the door this morning… because…it’s deer hunting season! He left for his first four-day weekend and will come back on Monday only to leave again the following Friday. But, I think some of his gaiety was a little forced. He’s tired. He’s been working really hard these last couple of weeks; taking down the landscape timber wall and cutting up all the timbers, putting in the block wall, building the fence for his camper, and then bringing the camper home, getting it on the side of the house and then physically pushing the trailer with the four wheeler on it, and still working three mornings a week.
The Great Hunter is in great shape for a man his age and he’s able to do many things many men his age can’t. But he is creeping up to the octogenarian age and sometimes his mind is willing but his body says “That’s enough!” It’s hard for him to have limitations now which he never had before. Hunting season gives him time to take some time off and gives him a chance to spend some quality time with his son, but he has to plan and prep and pack and hunting mornings start very early.

I haven’t seen the camper in a while since I haven’t been to our recreation lot in a long time. I totally forgot how wide it was. It barely fit into the enclosed fence beside the house. It cleared the fence posts by mere inches and lucky for me, I didn’t have to do the ground guiding. I left that up to my granddaughter and the Great Hunter’s friend. I backed out of that task right away because I know how these things go with me and the Great Hunter. He can’t hear me half the time and gets frustrated and I get frustrated because he gets snippy and on and on it goes. The Great Hunter did an awesome job of getting it into the tight space and the only casualty was one of the exterior lights on the camper.
So he’s left me alone all weekend with our fur girls. Millie and Dolly are definitely a handful. Dolly is ten months old and almost as big as her sister, Millie, who weighs 100 lbs.
It’s funny, yesterday I was at my Medicare Wellness exam they had a form to fill out asking all kinds of questions about your home life, like do you have grab bars and handrails, is there a light switch near your bed, do you have throw rugs, etc. Funny, they don’t ask if you have 100-pound dogs whose heads are at knee level and almost knock you down when they try to beat you to the door or the fifteen-pound cats who routinely walk in front you and ceremoniously flop on the floor at your feet. Lol.

So, I’m on my own for the next couple of days. The time alone is always good, but knowing that it’s only temporary and the Great Hunter is coming home, makes me happy. I’m blessed.
