Mondays–V5E9–Small Blessings

Sometimes I forget to count the small blessings in my life, so this week, that’s what I’m doing. Counting them.

    1. 82° on Tuesday, in the last week of February! Who knew? It didn’t last more than one day and then back to winter, but boy, was it great. My toes are always cold but I sat outside barefoot (not long, but I did!)
    2.  A really, really good book. The Women by Kristen Hannah. I’ve never been able to write a good book review so I won’t try. My review is “Wow, just wow”. Such a powerful novel. Kristen Hannah’s books are always good, but this one, to me is just unforgettable.
    3. My floor tile is in, all eighteen cases of it (picking it up later this morning—hopefully, it’s the correct tile).
    4. Sheet Pan Sausage and Veggies. If you’ve read any of my recipes, you know that I generally use a recipe as just a suggestion and that’s what I did with this one. I used what I had on hand and it was soooooo good! I thought I’d made too much when I had a large sheet pan filled, but there was nothing left after the Great Hunter and I finished eating. Beef smoked sausage, frozen Asian style veggies (plus the remainder of a small bag of other frozen veggies plus onions and chopped red, yellow and green peppers), less olive oil (I only drizzled the oil) but I did use the spices.
    5. I completed my Durable Power of Attorney and Health Directive. Each time I’ve been to the hospital, they ask me if I have one. Since I’m scheduled for a third cardiac ablation next week I thought it was time. I took it to the bank to be notarized only to be told that in addition to being notarized, I needed two witnesses. Who has two people they can haul to the bank during the day to act as witnesses? I was so disappointed I got up to leave and forget the whole thing when at that moment an older couple came into the bank. I told them about my dilemma about needing two witnesses and asked if they would be willing to act as my witnesses. I thought the gentleman looked somewhat familiar, but his face was much older than I remembered. Turned out, he was an attorney from my past and they agreed to act as my witnesses.
    6. My State tax refund is already in my bank account; one week after I filed through Turbo Tax. Of course, I’ll have to pay our Federal taxes with half of it, but any extra money in my bank account is a plus, especially since March is the month the Great Hunter and my cars’ bi-annual insurance premiums are due.
    7. I had the opportunity to watch (and capture–photographically) a hawk feasting on a rabbit and taking flight with the rabbit. He landed on my neighbor’s roof where he continued to enjoy his lunch. That’s not something you get to see every day and if it wasn’t for the Great Hunter coming home from work at the moment the hawk was feasting and calling to alert me, I would have missed it!
    8. The Bluebirds are back! I first saw Bluebirds in my backyard last year. I was so excited as I had never seen one in our yard. Looking out my kitchen window at my feeders I’ve seen Hummingbirds, Red-headed Woodpeckers, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Starlings, Bluejays, Nuthatches, Thrashers, Robins, Goldfinches, Red Finches, Juncos, Cardinals, and of course, Sparrows.  I can never see a sparrow and not think of the hymn “His Eye is on the Sparrow” which is based on this Bible verse  which was my youngest son’s confirmation verse:

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

I hope you too have daily blessings!
