The Great Hunter and I have expanded our working-together skills these last few months. We’ve managed to put together all the kitchen cabinets:

the outdoor shed:

and our last project, a new kitchen buffet.

I’ve wanted to replace my old buffet for a long time. It isn’t real wood and over the years it’s been used…a lot. It was one of the first pieces of furniture that I ever put together. Now it is mostly a cat feeding station. I have to feed them where the dogs can’t reach or the poor kitties would starve. This is probably not ideal, but in our house, the animals rule. After all…
Not long after I put it together, one of the boys ran into it and broke the bottom decorative piece off. I was not pleased and for the rest of its life, the bottom piece was just nailed on.
Originally, the left side was open shelving. Several years ago, I painted it white and asked the Great Hunter to build a door for it. But now the top is beginning to sag and the paint is chipping and it was just starting to look its age.
I found this new one on Wayfair. It was the right size and fits my space, so I bought it. The Great Hunter and I managed to work through the directions that rival those of Ikea. All was going pretty good until we got to this page. We were getting near the end and we’d put the top on only to realize the back pieces, which I didn’t even realize were depicted, had to be put on before the top. Crap. We took the top off, fixed that step and put the top back on. I started to work on the drawers only to realize we had a piece on backwards. Let me tell you, the Great Hunter wasn’t pleased when I told him we needed to have to take the top off AGAIN. But we did. We called it a day and I finished the drawers and doors the next day.

I think we’re done building things for a while.
