We were up and out of the cabin by 8:30 to meet Michelle for breakfast at a quaint little creperie in downtown Arcata. Delicious strawberry banana-filled crepe topped with hazelnuts and whipped cream. Yum. We drove quite a long way because Jennifer wanted to show me her favorite beach, Luffenholtz Beach in Trinidad. We had to hike down a rather steep incline and although there were stairs, our walking canes were a lifesaver.
The beaches in this part of California are not like any beach I’ve ever seen before. before. We hiked about 100 steps down to the beach and water’s edge where large rocks seemed to grow out of the water.

We stopped at a roadside attraction, the Legend of Bigfoot and walked around. It was amazing that when we left Arcata it was 65 ° and when we got to Bigfoot, it was 95 °. Walking around, I managed to step on a 1″ wood shard and drove it through the sole of my shoe. I couldn’t get it out by pulling it, so, since I had no tools, I had to resort to pulling it out with my teeth. You gotta do what you gotta do.
We drove back to Arcata to visit my daughter’s half-sister where she works. She propagates native plants for reforestation and when they are grown enough, they are reintroduced back into the wild. Dinner we visited the Redwood Curtain Brewing Company. I had a delicious fresh grilled fish sandwich topped with some kind of delicious slaw and pickled radishes. I’ve never eaten pickled radishes before, but they are definitely something I’m going to try when I get back home.
We were pretty pooped by the time we were done eating, so we called it a night.
