Happy December Eve. Happy day before there is something to do almost every day of the month. I’m sitting here this morning waiting for the delivery of my new rocker recliner. This has been something I’ve wanted for over four years. I’ve had the same Lazy Boy rocker recliners for over ten years, long enough that when I bought them, I got two chairs for under $1000. Now one chair is almost that much.
Way back in the Covid season of June 2020, I ordered two new rocker recliners from the Lazy Boy Store. When I ordered, they told me it would be October before my order could be delivered. With the way things were at then I thought that was understandable.
Fast forward to October and sure enough, they called and said my chairs were in and would be delivered to the store I bought them from. I’m too cheap to pay for delivery, so unless it’s like an appliance or something, or they offer free delivery, I arrange to pick up the items. So when I received the call, I arranged for a pick-up date. The day before I was to pick them up, I called to make sure they had my order before we drove out to get them. Yes, I was told, they were delivered to the store. But, when we arrived at the store, we were told only one of the recliners had been delivered and after checking were told the other chair would arrive the next week. Since I had called the day before to confirm my chairs were ready for pickup and we’d made the trip to pick them up and they only had one of the two chairs ordered, I told them I wanted the chair delivered to my home. The manager said they hadn’t physically checked that both chairs were there, just that the computer said they were. After some “debate” they agreed to deliver my chair to my house the next week and we took the one chair home.
Then…the next week arrived and I received a call saying the chair hadn’t come in and they would call me when it did. Three days later, I received a call that the chair was in and we arranged a delivery date for three days. But right after that call, I received another call from the local store saying there was a problem with the order and the other chair was apparently used to fulfill someone else’s order. The caller said I could reorder the chair but it would be another three months before it came in.
That entailed another “debate” between me and the management at the local store. I told them that since they couldn’t fulfill my order, I wanted to return the chair I had taken home. I was told no, that I couldn’t bring that one back. Our “discussion” was that I had ordered a pair of recliners, not one and it was an error on their part that I didn’t receive both chairs. I told them I should not have to keep one recliner and wait for months to receive the other one. They finally relented, we returned the chair, and that was four years ago.
My recliners have definitely seen better days; the cats have completely destroyed one of the sides using it as a scratching post and one chair was moved to the Great Hunter’s man cave for his enjoyment. A year or so ago, I had an epiphany…chair covers. I found one I liked so much that a year later, I ordered another set to cover the ugly wingback chair I bought at the church rummage sale.
My new chair is here. The seat feels strange because it isn’t curved to fit my rear end like the old one. Now I only have to be concerned with the cats scratching it and Millie drooling on the arm and it should be good for another ten years.(But if not, I’ll keep the chair cover.) lol
bravo! the wait is over
