Mondays–V5#15–Another Week Come and Gone

Holy cow! Here it is Saturday already. I know everyone still working is thinking…”what the heck are you talking about? It’s thank goodness it’s Saturday!” I know I’ve probably expressed this before, but it is scary how fast time passes the older you get. When you know the road you’re traveling is getting shorter and shorter it feels as though you are on one of those mechanical walkways at the airport, speeding you to the end.

The Great Hunter and I worked again in the backyard doing the same thing we did last year to get grass growing. This year I bought a cultivator that GH used to churn up the ground to, hopefully, give the grass seed a better start. I bought Perrenial Rye (because of its fast germination and rapid seedling growth) and Tall Fescue ( because of its greater tolerance to heat and deep roots that stand up well to dogs). So far, so good. It’s been a little over a week and I already have a good beginning.

Other things we’ve been working on…the Great Hunter bought a new canvas to replace the mouse-eaten canvas in his camper, only to have the zipper break when he was zipping it up and then breaking the hydraulic lift (again). So now, after arguing with the canvas manufacturer about shipping me a zipper for free to fix the broken one, the Great Hunter has to take the camper in for repairs. This will be the third time he’s had to have it repaired. He’s paid as much in repairs for the hydraulics as he paid for the camper twenty years ago.

Me, I’ve started working on the quilt I plan on putting in my Quilt Guild’s quilt show in November. It’s a twelve 18″ block quilt with the center of each block being a machine embroidery piece. This way, I get to combine   both of the things I love–embroidery and quilting (although I do have to admit that cutting fabric for piecing is my least favorite thing to do.)

The Great Hunter and I made the next step on my 70th birthday celebration and applied for our passports. I’m not sure where we’re going but at least now we won’t be limited in what we can do. What better way to end that excursion than a stop at the local Dairy Queen? Our girls agreed.
