Simple Smores
Paula Deen had a great idea on her website for a simple yet yummy Christmas gift. Simple Smores, all ingredients layered in a quart mason jar, or as in my case, an apothocary jar. Paula’s original recipe calls for Teddy Grahams but due to the fact that I am an el cheap-o (Teddy Grahams are $3.00 a box), I used crushed graham crackers instead. I actually like the fact that they are smaller and make the Smores a little less chunky.
Servings: 12 squares
Prep Time: 10 min
Cook Time: 15 min
Difficulty: Easy
1 ½ cups crushed graham cracker (about six full crackers)
1 ½ cups miniature marshmallows
1 ½ cups semi sweet chocolate chips
½ cup brown sugar
1 (quart) mason jar
Directions
Layer all ingredients in the mason jar and attach an instruction label that reads:
“Preheat oven to 350º F. Prepare a 9” square baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Pour contents of the jar along with ½ cup melted butter into the prepared baking dish and press firmly. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and cool completely. Cut into bars.”
Make a couple jars ahead of time to keep on hand for those last minute gifts. You’ll be glad you did.
