The Great Hunter turned 78 on Saturday. That is so hard to believe. I’m sure this is the same feeling many older people have when they stop and wonder where the heck did the time go? How did I get this old?
The Great Hunter and I had this conversation at breakfast this morning. He said he can’t believe he was 78 and I agreed. He’s always been so strong and healthy and I’ve always relied on him to fix almost anything that needs fixing (of course, under supervision, wink wink.) He’s still very strong and healthy for his age. Many, many men his age can’t do half of what he can do. Just last year he manually chopped out a tree stump.

It’s scary when you realize the “future” you always took for granted, is now limited. I’m a worry wart. I know I shouldn’t be and I try to tell myself to “let go, let God” but sometimes that doesn’t help. When GH and I were talking the other morning, I told him sometimes I worry that we shouldn’t have gotten two big dogs. If the dogs live eight to ten years, he’ll be in his late eighties and I will be in my late seventies. How are two old people going to handle two 100-pound dogs? Get them in the car? Get them to the vet? Get down on the floor and trim their toenails? Take them for a walk? Take them to the pool? 😉
I can just imagine if we let the Medicare people, who annually want to come to the house to make a home visit, would react to all our fur babies.
It’s becoming more difficult to keep up this blog on a weekly basis, since GH and I don’t seem to do anything interesting on a weekly basis any longer. Our excursions are now few and far between, which I think is one casualty of our ages. Our youngest keeps saying we should go here or we should go there; tow the camper, drive across the country and visit the National Parks. But the truth of the matter is, GH and I have spent most of our lives going and doing and now we find home is where we most often want to be. In fact, a good day for me is not to have to leave the house at all. But that doesn’t make for very interesting reading, so if you don’t see much of me, that’s the reason.
