For the first time since my surgery, I’ve put on dress clothes for a court appearance. Can’t get any snazzier than my black boot and white sock. I was really glad I had taken advantage of the opportunity to obtain the temporary handicapped placard as parking is at a premium around our court facilities. But, of course, with the courts building, county jail and county administration building, they only provide about ten handicapped parking spots. I ended up having to park two blocks away and walk down a long, steep hill. If I thought walking downhill was bad, it had nothing on walking back up. I didn’t think I’d make it to my car with the combination of my left foot and my right hip hurting because of the off-balance, uphill walking. My court apearance was to testify at a Grand Jury hearing. When I came out of the hearing, another officer made the comment that he was going to stop working cases two or three years before he retired so he didn’t have to make unpaid court appearances. Sounds like a good deal to me.
