Mondays–V7E19–Blank Calendar Week

When You Rule the Roost

This week was one of those good weeks when I looked at my calendar and every square of the week was blank. Don’t get me wrong, I do like to do things, I just don’t like to be overly scheduled. That’s why I like my exercise class on Friday morning. By Friday, I’m good with having some place I’m obligated to go. For quite a few years, I had an exercise class that met at 8:00 a.m. on Monday mornings. I don’t like getting up and motivating at 8:00 a.m. at the start of the week, although I know this was the real reason for having a class on Monday morning…to motivate you for the rest of the week. All the years I worked, I never had a problem with Monday morning, albeit when I worked the street for the Sheriff’s Department, any day of the week could be Monday.

This lack of scheduling for the week allowed me to be somewhat spontaneous. That’s a word that normally doesn’t have a place in my vocabulary. I am not spontaneous. I have to plan.  Even if I only have an hour or two to get my head in a space that is ready to be outside my “box”, it is crucial. My daughter called the other morning and asked if I wanted to go with her to an antique store and out to lunch, but I had several hours notice. Not that I generally need any time to mentally prepare to do something with my adult children, I don’t. They are the best part of my life. I found this adorable “Percy the Pig” made by Fitz and Floyd at the antique mall. Percy was calling my name and I knew he wanted to come home with me. It helped that by googling the image, I found that it was worth about twice the asking price. Now he has a home on my antique sewing machine.

Newest fad, “Tarps Off”…Take off your shirt and wave it around

I got the Great Hunter to go to a Battlehawks game with me on Saturday. My neighbors, who are diehard football fans, have season tickets to our UFL football team and I’ve been wanting to see a game for several years. Every time I suggest it to the Great Hunter, he is less than enthusiastic. But as with everything, unless it is hunting or fishing or going to our property…or having lunch or dinner with his son…he’s not motivated to do it. Usually, I plan it, he goes  and most times, he finds it enjoyable. One of my continual laments is that if I didn’t plan things for us to do, we’d sit in the house and grow mold and every day and week would melt into the next until…well, until there aren’t any more tomorrows.

It is Memorial Day weekend, the official start of summer. This year, I haven’t planned a summer vacation for us. We’re going on a BIG vacation next year, a trip with my church choir to Portugal. Portugal isn’t a country I have ever thought about visiting (to be honest, I didn’t even know where it was). Still, since our choir director is retiring after almost fifty years of teaching and directing, this is the final choir trip being offered. I knew I wanted to go. Even though it is soooo expensive. Thank God for home equity loans. Lol.
