I can’t believe it is the middle of August already. Temperature-wise, I can believe it; it’s been hotter than Hades this past week. I had my youngest grandson several days while his mom and dad went to Las Vegas for a wedding. I really love my grandson, but he is definitely his father’s son, with his ADHD, maybe even worse.

Sunday, after church, we went to Wild Bird Sanctuary. I don’t think I’d been there in twenty years. It hadn’t changed a lot; it seemed a little bigger, but wow, was it hot that afternoon.

The bird sanctuary abuts Lone Elk Park in St. Louis County, so we drove through there hoping to see some buffalo. I guess it was just too hot for most of the animals and the only one we saw was a deer. Of course, according to the Great Hunter, this was a magnificent deer. We ended the afternoon with a trip to Dairy Queen for burgers and ice cream and we were all done for the day.

Originally, on Monday, I had planned for us to go to the City Museum in St. Louis. One of their biggest attractions is their rooftop play area, which costs extra to access.

I almost bought the tickets with the rooftop, but the more I thought about it, knowing it was supposed to be over 100° with the heat index, the less I thought I wanted to spend the money to bake in the sun on a rooftop in downtown St. Louis.
I settled on taking him to the movies, where we saw Dwayne Johnson’s Moana.

It wouldn’t have been my top pick, but I had to find a show that we could see that would still give us time to go to his HOUR AND A HALF soccer practice (outdoor, no less).

Needless to say, after that, both he and I were worn out, and we showered, watched a television movie and went to bed. His parents picked him up the next day around dinner time and they were exhausted so it was a quick hi, thank you and bye. Ahhh.
