Mondays–V7E41–Time for Change

The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 3:1–2, “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven…” but I decided now isn’t the time to learn the new (to me) WordPress Block Editor. I was really chagrined (ooh, big word, lol) last week when I realized I could no longer use the Classic editor I’ve used for the last ten years and was being forced to use their Block Editor. I’m sure there’s really nothing wrong with the block editor, but I didn’t want to take the time to learn to use it. So, today, I bit the bullet and paid to upgrade my site so I could purchase the Classic Editor plug-in and continue doing what I already know how to do.

I’m writing this a few days earlier than usual because midweek we are going to Houston for a family wedding. I’ve been fretting about going on this trip because of the health issues I’ve had with Baby Kitty.  I decided I wasn’t going to go and the Great Hunter could ride down there with his son and daughter-in-law. But then, my brother-in-law was so excited that we were all coming down to visit (we’ve only been down there once before, about five years ago, he and his wife usually come up here) that I felt guilty choosing my cat over my family. So, I’m going, but we’re flying and I have my fingers crossed the Baby Kitty will be okay.

So, speaking of change…

This last week, the Great Hunter and I started a project I’ve been wanting to do for about a year: put a landscape rock border in front of our block retaining wall. After the problems we had last year with moles digging tunnels along the base of the wall, the gound was so patchy that it looked bad. I put off doing this project because 1) the cost, and more importantly, 2) the effort it takes. After all, the Great Hunter and I are not spring chickens. I decided to go with the less expensive plastic lawn edging and river rock. I’m not crazy about the black edging, but maybe next year, I can replace it with something more appealing.

So over the course of four days, we got the entire 75′ of the edging done. It’s better than what was there, but not what I’d really like. I showed a picture of the finished project to my cousin. She asked how big the “Dwarf Alberta Spruce” trees were going to get because they were so close to the wall. I told her I didn’t care because by the time they got too big to crowd the wall, I will be standing at the Pearly Gates.

Now I  have to keep my fingers crossed that I don’t lose a tree or two from the lack of rain. Apparently, my watering schedule hasn’t been sufficient.

My granddaughter asked me to come and read to her four-year-old class for “Community Helpers” week. I found the cutest book at the library (thanks to the very helpful Librarian) about Police officers.

I took my almost seventy-year-old stuffed monkey, “Chimpy,” as a prop. The poor thing is missing one ear and most of his fingers, but I’ve kept him (had to be a ‘him’ because he had suspenders—which are missing now too) all these years because of the good memories I have of him. When my older brother, who had a stuffed teddy bear named “Freddy”, and I were really young, we spent a lot of hours playing with them. My brother passed away in 1993. I know his “Freddy” still exists too,  but I’m not sure who has it.

The monkey was a hit, but I had to protect him from some overly zealous four-year-olds.
