Sometimes when I’m at work, I have quite a bit of down time. I work in a recycle center and have to wait for customers to come to me. Sometimes it’s so busy, you feel like you can’t catch your breath and then other times, you sit around thanking your lucky stars that you brought things to occupy your time.
My work day starts at 6:45 a.m. and ends at 4:45 p.m. or later. It’s way too early for me have breakfast before I leave for work, so I bring breakfast, as well lunch and sometimes, an afternoon snack. I go to work each day with what my husband calls my “kitchen sink” which includes my lunch bag, a couple magazines, my Kindle, an umbrella, an extension cord, some ink pens, mail and my work folder.
And since I’m confined to a 10′ x 20′ building for the entire time, I’d rather have and no need than need and not have.
Luckily we do have internet access. No social media or entertainment sites, no Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter or YouTube, but I can still waste a lot of time on the internet even if I’m not shopping. One of the things I like to do is save the emails I enjoy reading until my work day. It seems like at home I just have too many other things I have to do to be able to really enjoy some of my blogging emails.
One email I read today was from Lauren of Blesserhouse.com. It was entitled “Ten Tips for Getting Your Blog Noticed”. I’m not really sure how much I want my blog read, but I thought, what the heck.
The number one tip was “Consistently Join Link Parties”. That’s a new one on me. I’ve never heard of “Link Parties”, so I set out trying to figure out exactly what they were. I jumped from site to site and the most I can gather is a “link party” is a group of bloggers who get together on a site and link to each other’s site. I don’t get it. Can someone explain it so this old feeble mind of mine can understand it? Do I need to bring a gift?
