Happy May Day! Did you ever think about where the phrase “Mayday!” came from? I did so, of course, I turned to the source of all knowledge, Google and found that:
“Mayday” is the international radio-telephone distress signal used by pilots, mariners, and emergency responders to indicate a life-threatening, urgent situation, such as engine failure, fire, or sinking. It is pronounced like the French phrase “m’aider” (help me) and is formally repeated three times—”Mayday, mayday, mayday”—to ensure it is understood.
Well, I’m definitely not crying Mayday! with distress. To me it’s an exclamation of joy. I’m so happy that my grass is looking beautiful, better than I can ever remember it looking, and it’s warmer and just all the great things about the months of May through October.
The Great Hunter and I are officially old. We stand at the kitchen window watching the birds and squirrels who flock (or run) to our feeders. This week, I was tickled to see that a Grosbeak was back. What a great bird!
and I had to ask Google what this bird was and it is a juvenile Robin.

I decided a couple of weeks ago that I wanted to paint my kitchen. I used to paint my walls so often that it became sort of a joke, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve found that I’m not as excited about it as I used to be. The Great Hunter and I put up a chair rail in the hallway and I had to paint the bottom half of the wall. I fretted over putting up either beadboard or wallpaper, but in the end, I just decided to paint. It was much easier (and cheaper, I used paint I already had) and I can always repaint when Dolly decides to lie against the wall and get it dirty.
The blue is so outside my comfort zone that its going to take some getting used to. I’m a tan and gray sort of person, but I intentionally decided to add some color. We’ll see how it goes and if it stays. One more wall to go.
