I never thought I’d be one to complain about summer, but here I am, doing just that. This last week has been just brutal again. We even broke a record on Thursday with a temperature of 98 °. I’m not sure what the heat index was, but it was over 100 ° and this on Friday; 100 ° in my car.

I’ve written before about the problems Baby Kitty has with blood in her urine. I thought we were over this, but after we returned from Lake of the Ozarks, she was doing it again. Luckily, this time I was able to get a urine sample (not lucky for the dog bed she peed on) and the urinalysis results showed that she did not have a UTI. She has crystals in her urine, which most likely is caused  from being overly stressed (we’d left her and Momma home while we were gone and a neighbor was coming in and feeding them).

I’ve never had a cat that is afraid of everything; any sudden movement or loud noise will find her running for the closest cover; to the basement or under the bed or a couch. She allows no contact with anyone other than the Great Hunter and me. Our son, who is a total animal (and especially cat) lover, is always dismayed at the times where he’s tried to pet her and she hisses at him (and that’s only if she did not know he was approaching; if she had, he’d never gotten that close).

But my biggest concern is that for the next two weeks, we will have our son’s three dogs while he and his wife are on a long-awaited vacation in England. I intended to get Baby Kitty to the basement before they arrived with their herd, but I did not. She promptly ran and hid under our bed and it took both the Great Hunter and me to get her out from under there and down to the basement, where I hoped she’d feel safe. It took two days to get her to come out in the open.

Now, we’re up a little after 4 a.m. each morning.My son and daughter-in-law are on the road to work a little after 5:00 a.m., so wake-up time is really early. I told him that he forgot to tell them that we were both retired, so no need for such early rising. Lol.

It will be a long two weeks, but luckily, the heat wave is ending tomorrow and we will be back to normal late-September weather.
