The Durrells in Corfu

Think The Waltons…except English…on a beautiful Greek Island…and the mother is a struggling widow…and the older boys are self-centered and promiscuous…and the teenage daughter is, well, she’s a teenage girl…and the youngest loves all living creatures…which he brings home.

Delightful. One word says it all about this series.

1930s England. Widowed Louisa cannot make it on her widow’s pension in England so she moves the family to the Greek Island of Corfu. Her children, Lawrence, a struggling writer; Gerald, who doesn’t feel complete without a gun in his hands; Margo, who only wants to be a normal sixteen year old girl; and Gerald “Jerry” who is totally obsessed with all creatures, great and small are little help to her as she struggles to make it day to day. To quote a rather famous 1960’s television show; no phone, no lights, no motorcar, not a single luxury…but she does have the beautiful island of Corfu and the Ionian Sea.

Three seasons on PBS Masterpiece which I watch on Amazon Prime. I did pay for a monthly subscription to PBS so I’m not sure if all the seasons are available to every Prime member. By the way, if you don’t have prime, you are really missing out on great benefits for only about $10 a month.
